Jack Raper and Joe Lamb returned to the visitors’ starting line-up at the expense of Tafari Nicholas and Dan Dryden following the previous weekend’s home win over Seaham Red Star.
Nathan Stephenson blasted a free-kick into the Shildon wall during the early exchanges before Billy Greulich-Smith put the home side ahead after nine minutes. The same player doubled the lead with a bullet header three minutes later.
Shildon, now in total control, added a third through Adam Lennox in the 23rd minute, squeezing the ball over the line in a goalmouth scramble. It got worse for Town three minutes later when Lennox beat the defence again before side-footing it into the net for the fourth.
Problems mounted for the visitors just after the half-hour mark when wing-back Jack Stapley was forced to retire with an injury. Only the upright saved them for conceding a fifth goal before half-time.
Shildon did extend their lead in the 58th minute, however, as Lennox claimed his hat-trick with a shot that took a cruel deflection. To add to Northallerton’s misery, Lennox scored his fourth and Shildon’s sixth and final goal from the penalty spot after 73 minutes.
