It was a third successive league win for the visitors on a night when new signings Joe Lamb and Mark Sims got off to the best possible start with their first goals for the club.
Lamb, a young striker signed from Richmond Town, was introduced into the action as early as the 22nd minute to replace central defender Terry Galbraith, who felt a recurrence of his calf injury. By that time, West Allotment had taken the lead.
The referee pointed to the penalty spot in the 11th minute following a shirt pull on Luke Salmon, Max Cowburn converting. Both sides had chances in an even first half, with Tafari Nicholas having a goal ruled out for offside and Alfie Livermore having a shot blocked for West.
A minute before the break, Northallerton ‘keeper Callum Dobson made a good save from Cowburn by tipping his shot round a post.
It wasn’t until the second half that Town really got into their stride. They equalised after 55 minutes with a neatly-worked move that started with a free-kick into the box by Nathan Stephenson.
Jamie Harwood headed the ball across goal for Jordan Blinco, who took it on his chest before spinning to launch his shot into the top corner.
Northallerton went ahead four minutes later from the second penalty of the night. Fresh from scoring the opener against Crook from the spot, Stephenson applied another cool finish to beat home ‘keeper Callum Elliott.
Northallerton turned up the heat and had a great chance to extend their lead when substitute Alistair Banks played a good ball to Blinco. But luckily for West, the striker’s shot went over the bar.
Substitute Lamb put further daylight between the teams after 61 minutes when he collected a pass from Stephenson and set off on a great dribble through the home defence before making a confident conversion.
It was left to fellow substitute Sims to round off a very satisfying night in the second minute of injury time with Northallerton’s fourth goal. He picked up a long kick from Dobson to beat Elliott and show he can become a valuable asset in the months ahead.
