Ethan is a former York City academy player and the son of the current York City chairman Glen Henderson. Ethan had also spent his formative years on the books of other established academy systems including Sunderland and Blackburn.

Ethan then moved to the US last year where he trialled for the Atlanta United U19 side before ending up at South Carolina University where he stayed before joining Town.
