Fourteen members of Romanby Football Club – forerunners of Northallerton Town – lost their lives in the conflict and a further 18 were wounded. A total of 78 other local men from Romanby and surrounding villages who served in the war are named in the roll of honour.
Previously housed in St James Church, Romanby, it has been handed over to Town chairman Jason Bleanch by historian Tony Eaton and will shortly occupy a prominent position at the club’s Calvert Stadium.
“We are delighted to be able to commemorate these brave men and deeply grateful to Tony for donating such an important historical artefact,” says Jason.
